Hair Loss After Delivery
There is a saying that a mother will fully recover within 6 weeks after delivery. The truth is, hormonal and physical change still happen in the next few months. The notable one is hair loss after delivery which can happen between 3 to 6 months after delivery.
After all the things which happened throughout pregnancy, delivery, and confinement period, generally mothers will think that they have gone through the climax. As a result, many of them are surprised when they see strands of hair falling when they shower or merely combing their hair.
Hormonal change during pregnancy makes your hair looks thicker, smoother and shinier. In some cases, the colour might change as well. Generally woman will sheds up to 100 strands of hair per day, most of which does not occur during pregnancy. This is why within 3 to 6 months after pregnancy you will see hair loss – sometimes can be a lot!
What cause hair loss to mother after delivery?
First of all, we need to understand that there are two phases in a normal hair growth – Growth phase and Resting phase. Growth phase will take place for 3 years, where Resting phase is only 3 months. These durations will differ depends on individual. During Resting phase, the hair will be pushed out by new hair.
During pregnancy, the hormone will stimulate hair growth and its percentage. Which means your hair grows and doesn’t shed as frequently.
After delivery, there will be more hair entering Resting phase, and the hair will be pushed out within 3 to 6 months after delivery. This is mainly caused by falling estrogen levels. Most mothers will regain the normal cycle between 6 to 12 months after delivery.
Tips to feel comfortable
- Try various hairstyle
- Apply hair tonic
- Use good quality shampoo and conditioner
- Try to use product which will make your hair looks thicken
- Avoid using comb which will pull or press the hair
- Take enough protein and drink vitamin or supplement
Rest assured, the hair loss is only temporarily and whenever there is a hair loss, there will be new hair coming out as well.
