Getting Birth Certificate in Singapore Hospital

If your child is born in Singapore, the birth needs to be registered at one of the Birth Registration Centre in Singapore. Upon which, a Birth Certificate will be produced. The registration can be done by parents of the newborn, or someone may do it on behalf of the parents, provided he / she has a letter of authorisation signed by the parents.

Registration can be done at ICA ($18) or at hospital with an administrative charge (at Mt. Alvernia, you are required to pay $42). Baby Shop SG recommends you to register the birth at the hospital. Although you are require to pay extra, but you are able to spend more time with your little one at such early days of his/her life.

Ethnic characters of the child’s name in Chinese/Jawi/Tamil may be included in the Birth Certificate, but the parents must ensure the accuracy of the characters. For Chinese children who have been given a name in full Hanyu Pinyin version, the Chinese characters of the name must be reflected in the Birth Certificate.

Below are some information regarding the birth registration:

Ideally, birth should be registered within 14 days from the date of birth (including Sundays and public holidays). If the registration is done after 14 days and within 42 days, it is called Delayed Registration, which is strongly discourage.
